Support the Submarine Cable Industry Via a Charitable Donation to the SubOptic Foundation
In order to realise its vision, free its potential and deliver its aims, the SubOptic Foundation needs to raise funds and partner with companies for support. Our fundraising effort is beyond any donations greatly received from The SubOptic Association.

Ways to Donate
There are several ways you can support the SubOptic Foundation: we’re grateful for all support no matter what form it takes. If you’d like to support us, use the links below to contact the team - we’d love to hear from you.

Fundraising
We welcome support from both individuals and corporate entities, whether this support comes in the form of financial contributions or in-kind support. Some examples of support are summarised below:
The Foundation has welcomed the financial support received since 2022 in the form of grants to support its Sustainability and Strategic Network Resiliency research programs.
In each of these cases, the grants were awarded by the National Science Foundation (ISOC).
- Sustainability Research Grant awarded in 2022
- Strategic Resiliency Grant awarded in 2023
The Foundation continues to seek grants to expand the scope and geographical reach of its research programs, aligned to the subsea space.
Matching grants are grants provided by corporations, foundations, or individuals to the Foundation wherein the corporation agrees to match a certain amount of money that the Foundation raises.
Match funding can be beneficial for both the grant provider and the recipient because it reduces risk and the cost burden. It can also be attractive to funding bodies because it means they get more value for their money.
Whatever the size of your donation, it is most welcomed by the Foundation. We appreciate that you have a choice of good causes that you could support, so we want to assure you that your contribution will support training, mentoring, partnerships and professional development programs benefitting the next generation of innovators and leaders in the global subsea, communications industries and internet infrastructure space.
SubOptic Foundation is eligible for employee giving programs of large employers, making it easy for those employees to give. It is recognised that in some casescompanies have a donation matching program for their employees and these can significantly enhance the impact of an individual’s donation.
SubOptic Foundation is registered on the Benevity giving platform, however, if your company uses other giving platforms, we would be pleased to review the benefits of registering on those platforms too, to assist your giving.
As a 501(c)(3) charity, contributions to The SubOptic Foundation (US) by individuals are tax beneficial.
Companies will sometimes make a particular cause their charity of choice, establishing a relationship that will continue for an extended period of time, whereby any opportunity to provide charitable support in-kind, or a corporate financial gift, their chosen charity or non-profit will benefit. This can also provide some tax benefits in certain countries.
Where there is a mutually beneficial fit between the Foundation and an individual or company, event sponsorship is a great way to enhance awareness of a company or its philanthropic outreach support. This tends to be financial, but can include in-kind support too e.g. speakers at an event.
In all cases there will be ana greed level of mutually beneficial marketing and branding aligned promotion to represent the commitment to the event, recognising that Foundation events are organised by the Foundation for the benefit of the industry, in line with the Foundation core aims.
Event sponsorship would be supported by an agreement between the two parties and follow-up reports on the outcome of the event.
The Foundation may utilise crowdfunding as a way of raising money to finance certain projects. It would enable quick fundraising from a relatively large number of people via an online platform.
We recognise SubOptic Foundations' highest level donors - both individuals and companies whose generosity has strengthened our ability to serve our community. With prior agreement from the donors, we would like to recognise those who have made contributions of $100K+.
At certain times in the year, there is an alignment either with a special event for the Foundation or a Nationally recognised ESG celebration day and we will provide an opportunity to contribute to the Foundation on these special occasions.
Planned giving is an important consideration when planning for the future, indeed donating to charity at the end of life can help reduce the tax burden on your estate and support causes you care about.
It is important to check the latest guidance in the country in which you live, but in some countries, leaving a gift to charity in your will can reduce or even eliminate the Inheritance Tax on your estate, with the charitable gift being deducted from the value of the estate before calculating Inheritance Tax.
If you were to include the Foundation in your will and estates as a beneficiary, your legacy could make a huge difference to our students and early in careers.
