Building a Better Future for the Submarine Cable Industry
From fostering innovation and sustainability to advancing technology and collaboration, we’re committed to empowering our members to create long-term impact in the sector.

Education
The Foundation’s educational initiatives aim to inspire and prepare the next generation of subsea telecom professionals whilst engaging the industry. These programs include the WAVE regional/local language symposia, which serve as an introduction to the industry, followed by the GDI certificate, and culminating in the UNIGE postgraduate degree.
These initiatives, alongside online resources and academic partnerships, are designed for real impact.

Research
The Foundation conducts applied research on key issues in global Internet infrastructure that result in best practice reports. These reports are funded by grants and aimed at subsea cable companies, operators, governments, and other stakeholders in the telecom ecosystem.
The research bolsters the Foundation’s credibility and attracts further funding. We also use media partnerships and industry events, such as ITW, PTC, SNW, SN EMEA, and Capacity, to share the findings and raise awareness of the subsea digital infrastructure.
Marine Maintenance
SubOptic, supported by several of its member companies, has launched an independent project examining the global, submarine-cable marine maintenance ecosystem.
The goal is to help us collectively better understand (using a data-driven methodology) the issues surrounding those maintenance services which are vital to supporting today’s and tomorrow’s global undersea network.
TeleGeography is leading the first phase of the project and we hope to extend this work later in 2025 to explore potential ways of enhancing these maintenance services’ ability to make our global network even more resilient in the years to come.
