LS GreenLink Begins Vertical Construction on Virginia’s Tallest Building at its Manufacturing and Pier Complex in Chesapeake

The 660-foot VCV tower will house the world’s most advanced vertical manufacturing technology, utilizing state-of-the-art processes to produce next-generation high-voltage power cables for a resilient global energy grid.
CHESAPEAKE, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–LS GreenLink USA, Inc. (“LS GreenLink”), a subsidiary of LS Cable & System, Ltd. (“LS Cable & System”), today celebrated a major milestone in its U.S. expansion with the Phase 1 Construction Milestone Ceremony in Chesapeake, Virginia, officially marking the start of vertical construction for its state-of-the-art manufacturing and pier facility.
The Phase 1 development represents a $681 million investment and will establish one of the most advanced high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine cable manufacturing facilities in the world. The project is anchored by a 660-foot Vertical Continuous Vulcanization (VCV) tower , which upon completion will become the tallest structure in the Commonwealth of Virginia , alongside a 750,000-square-foot manufacturing facility – equivalent to approximately 13 football fields under one roof . Phase 1 is expected to create over 330 full-time jobs.

The Chesapeake facility is strategically designed to support the growing demand for advanced transmission and grid modernization across the United States. Once operational, Phase 1 of the plant will manufacture next-generation submarine cables essential for strengthening the nation’s power grid and enabling efficient long-distance transmission of electricity underwater.
Construction for Phase 1 broke ground in April 2025 and is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2027, with full operations anticipated by the first quarter of 2028. Hanmi Global Co., Ltd. is serving as the construction manager, Hyundai Engineering Co., Ltd. as the general contractor, and Heerim Architects & Planners Co., Ltd. as the principal architect.
